candida of the esophagus
Mar 13, 2000

would candida of the esophagus feel like someone is choking my esophagus? Would someone who has it feel otherwise healthy except for the severe esophagus and throat pain?

Response from Dr. Feinberg

Candida esophagitis usually makes swallowing painful in the center of the chest and may feel like the food gets "stuck" midway down-- which is what you may be trying to say when you described a choking sensation. You can have esophagitis and otherwise feel pretty good. It can be easily diagnosed by endoscopy (passing a fiberoptic tube into the esophagus), which doesn't take long and isn't uncomfortable. Get checked out before this becomes a bigger problem, with weight loss because of problems with eating.
