| cytomegalovirus Jun 1, 2001 My husband was just dignosed with CMV. We need basic information about the disease. He does not have HIV. Could you please list the casues, symptoms, treatment, duration, etc. Is this likely to flare up again, or it is a one time virus that he'll recover from? He just recently traveled to Guatemala, could this be related? He has been experiencing night sweats, low fever in the evening, fatigue, loss of appetite and weight. He's had these symptoms for 5 to 6 weeks. He was tested for Hepetitis, and then CMV. This tested positive yesterday. All the information about CMV are related to HIV. What is the disease's course in a non-HIV patient? Thanks! |

Response from Dr. Feinberg
Unfortunately, your question is too long and too complex to answer in this forum. You can certainly get basic information from any general medical or infectious diseases textbook. CMV is not confined to people with damaged immune systems, but they are the ones most likely to develop persistent infection that causes ongoing medical problems. If your husband is basically healthy, he should recover without recurrent problems. |
