Response from Dr. Feinberg
MAC is a serious problem in AIDS and can lead to death if untreated. "Worst" is in the eyes of the beholder, but I don't think MAC is the worst beause there are medications effective against it. The symptoms are general and usually consist of fatigue, weight loss, fevers, night sweats, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. The germ can be grown for a blood sample, which is the quickest and easiest way to daignose MAC. |
