how soon can you get symptoms of HIV?
Mar 25, 2001

dear doc, is it possible to start feeling signs that your infected with HIV like a couple days after a sexual encounter withsomeone that had HIV? And if your have a sexual experience with someone thats HIV+ does it mean 100% that u have it too? thanks alot...please answer

Response from Dr. Feinberg

The incubation period for acute HIV infection is typically around 10 days. Most people do not have any signs or symptoms of HIV before that.

It is not certain that you will get HIV if you have sex with an HIV+ person, but why risk it? The likelihood of getting infected from an HIV+ partner increases as the partner's viral load (amount of virus in the blood) increases. Don't do anything dumb, please.
