|What is thrush and when does it occur?
Mar 14, 2001
Is thrush common in early stages - specifically in the window? What are the symptoms? Is a whitish tongue thrush? If not, is it something related?
Response from Dr. Feinberg
Thrush is not at all common in the early stages of HIV disease but can be seen in some newly-infected individuals as part of the acute retroviral syndrome. The symptoms are discomfort and/or difficulty swallowing. The appearance of thrush is usually white plaques on the tongue, gums, inner cheeks and/or back of the throat that are easily scraped off.
