 Vfend is the antifungal agent voriconazole and was recently approved to treat aspergillosis, a fairly uncommon fungal infection. Aspergillus may certainly cause infections in persons with AIDS, but the rates have declined quite a bit in recent years since the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy. Vfend may also be used in HIV medicine off label for management of oral and esophageal candida infections that are resistant to Diflucan (fluconazole). In our practice we have found it to be helpful in some of our patients with this problem. |
