|PCP- fungi ?
Feb 24, 2001
Why is it that weight loss, malaise and diarrhoea are also frequently associated with developing pcp ? is pcp an organism closely related to fungi o actually a fungi ?
thankyou for your help
Response from Dr. Feinberg
Pneumocystis carinii was long thought to be a protozoan (single-celled) parasite, but newer information have led to its reclassification as a type of fungus. PCP is typically a disease of slow, gradual onset that is often associated with fever, weight loss and malaise (but not diarrhea). This is also true of many other AIDS-associated OIs, so the general, systemic symptoms are not unique to PCP.
