What is HAART?
Dec 5, 2000

My partner is newly diagnosed as being HIV+. I am attempting to learn as much as possible about this disease. His last set of labs was not encouraging. What exactly is HAART and how should we approach his physician about it?

Response from Dr. Feinberg

HAART is just an acronym for Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy, which refers to a combination of 3 (or more) potent drugs. You should definitely approach his physician about potential treatment. And if you haven't been tested yet, I urge you to do so.
