Palpable lymph nodes Feb 20, 2002 All of the lymph nodes in my neck can always be palpated, but they are very small. My doctor has always said that my lymph nodes are normal, but I have read in your column that lymph nodes are considered swollen if they are palpable. Should I worry? Are my lymph nodes actually swollen? Thnak you very much for everything you do. |

 Your doctor is correct-- lymph nodes are often palpable but their size is entirely within the range of normal. When we speak of "swollen" lymph nodes, we are talking about nodes that are abnormally enlarged, not merely palpable (which just means that they can be felt). You have nothing to worru about. |
