| Early infections Jan 28, 2002 Hi there, I'm aware that during the first few months after infection viral load can be very high. Does this mean that the risk of opportunistic infections is also high? |

Response from Dr. Feinberg
Susceptibility to opportunistic disease, whether during the period of initial acquisition of HIV or in advanced stage disease (AIDS) is a function of your CD4 cells (how well your immune system works), not a function of your viral load (how much HIV is in your blood). |
