Toxoplasmosis - length of disability
Jan 7, 2000

Dr Currier;

My Partner has AIDS and was diagnosed with Toxoplasmosis three months ago. He has been taking Pyramethamine, Clindamycin and Leucovorin for this three months. When diagnosed, he had severe right side weakness an has been steadily improving. He still has difficulty walking due to weakness in his right leg and foot especially below the knee. Will he ever recuperate fully and be able to walk normally and what is the usual time for full muscular recovery. Beside your response, what other sources of information can I find regarding this issue?

Thankyou

Response from Dr. Feinberg

It isn't possible to predict exactly when or to what extent the neurologic damage from the toxo will resolve. Physical therapy should be helpful, in addition to the toxo meds and combination medicines for the HIV. You can look in standard AIDS textbooks in the library as a starting point-- they will have lots of references if you want tp pursue it further.
