tiny red spots on hands

Hi Dr,
I recently noticed two tiny broken blood vessel like things on my right hand. I made an appointment with a doctor in an urgent care setting.After she reviewed the marks(small,not raised,blanches on contact)she said this was Petechie(spellcheck) and went on to tell me this is an OI of HIV infection.I have an appointment with my DO, but I wanted to know if the information she gave was correct,as i do volunteer work with HIV infected persons,and have never seen this type of OI. THANKS!!

If these are indeed petechiae, that only indicates that your platelet count is low. There can be many reasons for low platelet counts, of which HIV is one, but certainly not the most common. See your doctor for a physical exam and a complete blood count. Good luck!
