Deep lung crackling
Jan 19, 2001

Dr. Feinberg, thank you for your time. In late Nov. I had a short episode of intense night sweats with a parculiar odor I've come to associate with pneumonia. Blood test and x-ray looked good and I felt ok. Viral load is 50 w/ 270 t-cells. Started a fairly harsh, productive cough in early Dec. that continues even today. A second x-ray was clean on 01.09.2001. However, there continues to be a deep crackling and popping sound when I completely exhale. I did a 7-day course of anti-biotics. Albuterol and codeine don't work very well at suppressing the cough and I nearly vomit occasionally due to the intensity. Any suggestions on the next step? It doesn't seem to be getting any better with time. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Feinberg

Sometimes a CT scan will show disease processes not identified on ordinary chest X-ray. Talk to your doctor about it, since you have such persistent symptoms.
