		Neuropathy Dec 20, 1999 Dr. Currier, Is Neuropathy consider an oppportunistic infection? If it's not what type of complication would it be classified at? Is it primarily seen during the late or early stages of HIV infection? Thanks


Advertisement Response from Dr. Feinberg Neuropathy is not an opportunistic infection. It may be due to HIV itself or to some of the drugs used to treat HIV that are toxic to nerves, such as ddI, ddC, and d4T. It is typically seen in more advanced HIV disease.
