CMV/eye problems
Jan 27, 2000

Can CMV cause glaucoma? If I understand the doctor right, glaucoma is a buildup of fluid behind the eye. They may need to operate (put a hole in my eye to make it drain). Could this be caused by CMV? I have never been tested for CMV. I am still newly infected with HIV (about 2 years) and just recently started having problems. I would greatly appreciate an answer. Thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Feinberg

CMV does not usually cause glaucoma, and HIV+s do not get CMV until their T cells are very low (under 100 and even lower than that). Glaucoma can often be treated with eye drops. Please look into why they are discussing surgery with you at this point-- have you tried medicine first?
