		Erlichiosis infection in person with HIV Mar 1, 2000 What would the recommended treatment be for someone who has been determined to have Erlichiosis infection, and now is suffering from Anemia? We are not sure whether the Anemia is a result of the infection or current HIV medication or a combination.


		Response from Dr. Feinberg There are a number of possible approaches to sorting this out. You can replace HIV drugs in your regimen that are known to cause anemia with other drugs. You can have a bone marrow evaluation to see if there is another cause entirely. If these approaches are not possible or don't work out, you can take erythropoeitin, the hormone that stimulates red blood cell production.
