| Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C Antibody Tests Nov 23, 2001 Dr. Dieterich: While I understand that there are other tests capable of detecting hepatitis b and c more quickly after a potential exposure than the antibody tests, can you tell me what the window period is for the antibody tests to detect hepatitis b and c, respectively. I have heard anywhere from 3 months to a year for hepatitis c, and I am confused. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
The window period is usually around 6 months reliably. However most people show antibodies at 3 months but some may take as long as 12 months although that would be a rarity. DTD | |||||||||
