| Chances of Being Cured of Hep C Nov 13, 2001 I am a 33 yr old female with Hepatitis C, genotype 1b, ALT 30, AST 28, PCR 440,000 copies. My liver biopsy showed very mild activity with no fibrosis. I think I may have been infected 10 yrs ago. Can you please tell me what chances I have of being cured. It should be noted that I have to take Asacol for another mild condition I have, Crohn's disease. Also, could you recommend a treatment that would best suit me. I thank you in advance for any assistance. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
In general, your chances are pretty good. You are female, young with a low viral load and no fibrosis. The chances should be at least 42% from the literature, but if you are very motivated and take all your medications then it would be even higher. Those numbers are with the new pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
