| Stupid question or not?(hep.B) Sep 25, 2001 I want to thank you very much for answering my previous question on immune or not. However, I have one additional question I need clarifying on please. I previously mentioned I was Hep B surface antigen(negative), anti-Hep. B core(positive) and use to be anti-Hep. B surface antigen(positive). However, as I stated a few years later I retested and the following came back. Still Hep. B surface antigen(negative) even with HBV DNA Qualitative, PCR(non-reactive)which is good. My question is, previously I stated that my Hep. B surface antibody came back (undetectable) a few years later, However it actually stated on the form as (Non-Reactive). Does this change anything as far as anything to worry about or do they mean the same thing? I feel really stupid???? Am I still immune? Or has the anibody completely gone? Your initial response was nothing for me to worry about, does that still hold true with the different terminology? |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
There are no stupid questions. The HBSAb does fade after a while. However since you have already been infected and cleared the virus, you are immune. Forget about hepatitis B, worry about something else! DTD | |||||||||
