Vaccination Question
Aug 2, 2001

I am considering a job change that could potentially require me to travel to the Far East. I am recovering from HEP B -E-antibody Positive, E-Antigen Neg. Enzymes are normal, no surface antibody yet. GGT 96. The company has a policy of vaccinating for overseas travel. Is there any danger in getting a vaccination after being infected and not yet having the surface antibody? Can a vaccination help in protecting me?

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Too late to vaccinate for hepatitis B. It will not hurt, but will not help either. However you should have hepatitis A vaccine before travelling. Advise all your friends to have hepatitis B Vaccine before they have the disease! DTD
