|screen postive but negative for confirmation
Jul 4, 2001
I was infected with Hep B last year and did my testing for antibody every 3 to 6 months. However a very interesting results surface recently.
Last week when i went for my hep B test again. I was tested positive for surface antigen and negative for antibody, but when the doctor did a confirmation test for surface antigen, I was tested Negative!
I redo the test and the same results surface again. Screen positive for surface antigen, negative for antibody and confirmation test for surface antigen is Negative.
So am I still a carrier for the disease? or have my body managed to clear the virus???
Response from Dr. Rodriguez-Torres
If you mean by confirmation that your doctor did a HBVDNA by PCR, this means that you have a low viremia;a low amount of circulating viral particles. You have not cleared the virus, but may be in the process, and you are still infectious and have no inmmunity. You should repeat the tests in 6 months, and also do the e antigen and antibody.
