another CCR5 question May 30, 2001 I read your response to the CCR5 question and subsequently spoke with an immunologist (Ph.D.)about the receptor. He stated that people with the CCR5 mutation would carry the virus because macrophages would phagocytize the virus and it would enter the macrophage genome then replicate. First, is this correct and if it is correct is it posible for the infected person to tranmit the virus through blood or organ donation since they remain seronegative. |

 This is a really remote hypothetical question. So far in those people who are homozygous (two genes) for the CCR 5 receptor deletion, there is no detectable virus in any of their cells. There is no viral reservoir that I know of. DTD | ||||||||
