|Rate of Hep C supression w/PegIntronRibavirin
May 29, 2001
At what rate does Pegylated Interferon (peginterferon alpha-2b 50 mcg. & Ribavirin [1000 mg/day] treatment suppress the Hep C virus in the patients body?
My last count was 8 million copies/ml, up from 100,000/ml last August.
My wife and I are due to try another IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) procedure next month, this time using a highly invasive (to the embryo) procedure called ICSI. We want to have some idea of how much Hep C will likely be in my semen after 3 to 4 weeks of treatment.
Response from Dr. Rodriguez-Torres
You can not consider to have a child if you are receiving ribavirin at the moment and 6 months after using the drug. The drug is TERATOGENIC,meaning can cause malformations of the fetus,if received by the female or by the male that provide the sperm.THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE CONTRAINDICATION>Please discuss this with your doctor.
