| questions Jul 13, 2000 we have a friend whose husband has been diagnosed and we were just concerned about it cause we have drank after his wife and we were concerned if u could catch the disease that way. is there a possibility that we could have got the disease and need to be treated for it immediately! |

You don't specify which disease to which you are referring. I assume you mean hepatitis C. HCV is not transmitted by contact with glassware or utensils. It really has to be transmitted by blood to blood contact, rarely by sexual contact. Hepatitis A can be transmitted through person to person contact, but it is really a fecally transmitted virus so bathroom cleaning and hand washing can reduce transmission! If you have ever shared a cocaine straw or a needle with the man then you should be tested for HCV! It never hurts to check! Douglas T. Dieterich, M.D. | |||||||||
