How to avoid liver cancer with HBV
Dec 15, 2014

I am 65yrs old. Diagnosed about 22yrs ago, but probably had it 25yrs before that. Worried about liver cancer.

Response from Dr. Taylor

The best ways to reduce our risk for liver cancer when we have hepatitis B include: --taking antiviral medications active against hepatitis B virus infection, to get your hepatitis B viral load to non-detectable levels and keep the levels down as far as possible -- not using any alcohol, and if you cannot stop using alcohol, use as little as possible- --not smoking -- getting screened for liver cancer. talk to your doctor about the ways that are best and accessible for you -- getting checked for other forms of liver disease and other infections that may accelerate hepatitis B disease course, including HIV infection.
