|HCV transmiting by blood
Dec 23, 2013
Hello Dr Taiylor. Can we be transmitted through the blood of HCVab(+)and PCR-quantitative(-)'s patient?. Look forward for ur reply soon. Thank so much Dr Taiylor.
Response from Dr. Taylor
In general, No. If there is no hep C virus, there is nothing to transmit. HCV Ab+ and HCV RNA by PCR negative often means the hep C went away on its own, which can occur within the first 6 months of infection, or was cured with treatment.
However if you are referring to a person whose virus is non- detectable while on hep C medications, there remains a risk until the person hears from her/his doctor that the infection has been cured.
Are we getting closer to developing Hep C vaccine?
