I received the HEP B vaccine as a child. Did not have the disease growing up. As an adult I recently got diagnosed with HEP B. Can I get a vaccine now in order to help me
Response from Dr. Taylor
Unfortunately no-- once a person is infected with chronic hepatitis B, the vaccine is of no help.
However the vaccine may help those you live with or have had sex with -- they can be tested for the blood test hepatitis B surface antigen. If this result is negative/non-reactive, they can be vaccinated and protected against hepatitis B.
