Response from Dr. Taylor
I think you are asking about whether you have liver cancer, or hepatocellular carcinoma. This is a cancer that can arise when there is cirrhosis, or scarring, of the liver, due to chronic hepatitis C infection. This diagnosis is typically made by a physician based on physical exam and history (the doctor examining your body and learning about your health), imaging studies (CT or MRI pictures of your liver), and by clues obtained from blood tests.
A tumor marker may be AFP? that you are referring to. A level of this blood test alone does not tell us if a person has liver cancer. There are many reasons why we may feel we are declining in energy. I suggest discussing this with your hep C doctor. All best to you.
