Response from Dr. Taylor
Hepatitis B may be spread within households, through a number of bodily fluids.
If we are living with someone with chronic hepatitis B, the best thing is for all household members to get tested with a blood test, for the hepatitis B surface antigen. If it is positive, the individual has chronic hepatitis B. If it is negative, the individual should be vaccinated against B, and if possible receive HBIG (hepatitis B immune globulin, not available in all parts of the world).
