info on antibodies for hep c
May 8, 2013

my boyfriend has antibodies for hep c (diagnosed 10 years ago)what are the odds that i could catch hep c?

Response from Dr. Taylor

The detectable antibody for hepatitis C means that a person has been exposed. The next test needed is a blood test for the hep C virus itself, called the hepatitis C RNA, or viral load. If it is present,or detectable, he has hepatitis C and can pass it through his blood. If the virus is not present, he cleared up the hep C and he cannot pass infection to anyone as he does not have it.
