| Concerned Jul 31, 2012 Hello Dr. McGovern. My question for you is I have had hep c for 3 years now and due to no insurance haven't been able to take care of it. My husband and I are trying to conceive our first child together so will I still be able to conceive a baby? |

Response from Dr. McGovern
You will be certainly able to conceive if you have HCV infection. However, if you have virus in your blood, you may pass this infection to the baby although the risk is low (<5%). Even if you pass the virus, babies often clear the infection. If your baby needs treatment eventually, children tolerate interferon very well. I would discuss this further with your OB doc. | |||||||||
