Response from Dr. McGovern
I appreciate your concerns. It is great that you have an undetectable HIV viral load on Atripla, which is very important. However, any sharing of a needle could certainly lead to HCV infection,- even a one-time event... So I would recommend getting tested for HCV RNA and HCV antibody and getting retested for at least liver function tests in 3 to six months if negative... If you have recently been infected, I would recommend following your viral load for two laboratories and if you haven't cleared in about 8 weeks I would simply treat you with interferon and ribavirin therapy. Your chance of cure in acute infection is VERY high. | |||||||||
