|Frequency of Hep C test for HIV positive

How often should a PLWH be tested for Hep C? Other factors? Exclusions?
Response from Dr. McGovern
It will depend on risk...Hepatitis C is transmitted easiest through injection drug use. Sharing of anything - needles, cookers, or cotton, can easily lead to infection. Sexual transmission is very uncommon among heterosexual couples. However, there have been several reports of outbreaks among men who have sex with men, particularly in association with anal trauma.
So speak to your doctor about any concerns you may have. It is best to know - then not know - so the right therapeutic decisions can be made. Particularly if you think you were just infected. Cure rates for acute HCV are much higher than chronic with dual therapy.
