My wife hcv and I not yet have it.
May 24, 2012

Last month me and my wife when to medical check up,report r out that she have hcv,but I did not have.but v having unprotected sex before that.we have a four years old gal,,,wat type is hcv from sex?thank you doctor.

Response from Dr. McGovern

Hepatitis C is uncommonly transmitted through sex among steady couples. However, outbreaks of new infections have been shown in men who have sex with men, especially those with HIV. The risk increases in patients with other STDs like syphilis.

Your wife will also need further testing to be certain that this HCV test is truly positive. For the next step I would suggest a HCV RNA test to see if virus is in her bloodstream.
