|tested positive for Hep C over 25 years ago. Should I be doing anything about it?

Hi, I tested positive for hepatitis C back in 1987. I have never been sick and my Doctors ( GP) when we do blood work never say my liver enzyems are high or anything I should be aware of. Should I be doing anything about this? I have been in recovery from substance abuse for over 10 years and don't drink or use any mood altering drugs but in the rooms of 12 step meetings I have heard horror story's from others who have undergone treatment for this and some who actually have died, I know there are different genotypes and I must have one of the least harmfull ones but should I do something? I don't want to fix something that isn't broke. so to speak. Thanks in Florida

You need to get an HCV RNA test to see if you have chronic infection. That is key. Most people with HCV DON'T have any symptoms.
