|Hepatitis C transmission through eyes
Mar 5, 2012
Yesterday, my mother who is hepatitis C positive but has undergone interferon treatment and has a very low viral count held my son's hand when her hand was cut. She had cut her hand approx 28 hours before holding my son's hand but her cut was not bleeding and from what I could see, the cut was not oozing any type of fluid. My question is, what is the possibility of trasmission of HCV if my child did get some dried blood/bodily fluid on his hand and then rubbed/wiped his eye or nose for example. He did not have any visible, open cuts on his hands at the time. at time of incident, I did not think about what happened for a few hours and my child did not wash and sanitize his hands for approx 3-4 hours after incident. Thank you for the help.

I would not consider this an exposure. There was no blood to blood contact. No further evaluation is necessary.
