false positive or weakly positive hcv
Feb 8, 2012

why weakly positive or false positive hcv occurs? after one year of my post exposure i did hcv rapid test. i got weakly positive in one lab and negative in another lab on the same day. Again after a month i did hcv rapid test , same it differs from one lab negative and mild positive in another lab. now 1year and 7months completed i did hcv elisa test and hcv qualitative tests - not detected. doctor told me to go for hcv rna quantitative test. result was less than 15 iu/mL.

Response from Dr. McGovern

False positive testing can occur with any test, simply because no lab test is perfect.

There is no reason to believe that somehow your body if different. It is just the test itself. It works great in the vast majority of people.

You do not need any further testing.
