Response from Dr. McGovern

You have a very low viral load and Hepatitis B e antigen negative infection.

It is not clear if you need treatment for hepatitis B just based on these blood tests. I would speak to your physician about your liver function tests and if they are very abnormal or not and as to whether a liver biopsy is being planned or not. Not everyone needs treatment for HBV infection. It is a decision based on whether there seems to be scarring and inflammation in the liver.

There are many potent agents for treatment. First determine the need for therapy.
