hiv ag/ab test negative after 6 months Apr 30, 2011 after 6 months of exposure, I got -ve hiv result. but at the end of report, it's mentioned that "advise clinical correlation". Am i safe? will co-infection with hepatitis extend the window period beyond 6 months. i am worried as am experiancing all hiv symptoms like buttock wasting |

 There is a case report of one patient having delayed HIV seroconversion because of acute HCV with jaundice. This is a rare case report. If you did not just have recent acquisition of HCV, your HIV antibody test is definitive. "Clinical correlation" just means that if you got this antibody just after exposure (eg, 2 weeks) , it may not be accurate. Thus, just as you would do with any test, you need to correlate it clinically with the patient's history. Wasting is associated with chronic long term infection. | ||||||||
