| liver enzymes Jan 12, 2011 Even though i have Chronic Active Hep C my liver enzymes have never been bad? Is this unusual? |

No this is very common. It does not reassure me that you have no disease either. You should have testing of HCV RNA to see if you have active infection. If so, you should have some form of evaluation - either a liver biopsy or a non-invasive marker of fibrosis (eg, a simple blood test) to help determine if you have any disease. There is a lot of misconception about the importance of liver function tests. If they are persistently abnormal, you have a higher risk of having disease than someone who has persistently normal LFTs...But persistently normal does not rule out disease. I have patients with cirrhosis who have normal LFTs. | |||||||||
