Hep c and oral sex exposure - please help!
Jan 12, 2011

Hi Dr. My gf was who has hepc was performing oral sex on me. I felt a slight pinch and did not think anyhting about it, when we were done I noticed I had a small bleeding cut. What are the chances of getting infecting by saliva this way or if she had any tiny amounts of blood in her mouth maybe from brushing or flossing? Also, my gf has been on treatment for 3 months, would this lower my chances? Thank you for your help and happy new year!!

Response from Dr. McGovern

Oral sex is not considered a risk factor for HCV transmission...Even with sexual intercourse HCV is not efficiently transmitted...(about 1 to 2% risk among heterosexual couples).

Acute HCV infections have been reported among men who have sex with men; the risk goes up with history of rectal trauma.

can you please help me to interpret my Hepa B Profile
