Jun 30, 2010 My husband got his hepa b profile result,here is the format:HBsAg=reactive, HBeAg=negative(cut-off value=1.00,patient's count=0.112), Anti-HBc igG= reactive(cut-off value=1.00, patient's count=0.004), Anti-HBe= reactive (cut-off value=1.00, patient's count=0.005), ALT= 26 IU/L and the Reference Range is 10-40. Please help me analyze his result?Is he infectious or only a healthy carrier?What is the best treatment for him?Thanks and more power. |

Response from Dr. McGovern
He has evidence of chronic infection due to his reactive HBsAg. His normal ALT (a liver function test) and his reactive anti-HBe are reassuring. A HBV DNA test would be helpful to confirm that he is indeed an "inactive carrier". You should have hepatitis B testing as well and if negative, you should get vaccinated. | |||||||||
