How can a person be HIV then 19 years later find out you also have HCV. They claim it's an old infection 10-15 years ago but why would it take so long to show up? My dr. said it's because they sometimes piggy back each other. so one covers up the other until you start having liver issues. like I have now that my HIV is undetectable. Does this make sence to anyone else?

The sequence of HIV and HCV infections depends on the risk of transmission.
Patients who use injection drugs usually get their HCV infection first.
Patients who acquire HIV through sex usually get their HCV infection afterwards.
More frequent testing for HCV is being recommended for men who have sex with men due to the increasing number of HCV infections among this group of patients.
