hepatitis c antibody formation
May 25, 2010

if hypothetically you contracted hiv and hepatitis c at the same time... i have read that acute hepatitis c can delay hiv seroconversion but is it also true that hiv can delay hepatitis c seroconversion if they were both contracted at the same time?

Response from Dr. McGovern

I am not aware of reports of delayed HCV seroconversion in patients with recent onset of HIV infection. In fact a report in 2009 of 3 patients who had acquired both infections simultaneously showed seroconversion rates consistent with what we see in HIV negative patients.
