Hepatitis C transmission May 9, 2010 I am a paramedic and I had a patient that is positive for hepatitis C. When administering a glucose check the patient started shaking his hand and a drop of blood went flying into my eye. Can you get hepatitis C that way, and what are the chances of getting it that way. |

 There has never been a proven case of transmission of HCV due to an eye splash (eg, phylogenetic analysis that matches the donor and recipient HCV isolates). However, because you are a health care worker, I always advise that you should always document all exposures and get baseline testing and follow-up just for your own protection. However, I don't suspect any risk of concern. | ||||||||
