|Hep C vs Gilbert's
Apr 6, 2010
My partner has Gilbert's disease and I have Hep C. If he were to contact the Hep C from me, how much more dangerous would it be due to his previous condition?
| Response from Dr. McGovern
Gilbert's is not a serious illness - it just causes some simple laboratory abnormalities without any major consequence. HCV acquisition would not be any more dangerous in him than in others. However, it is important to be aware of the fact that acute HCV infections are being reported among MSM globally associated with traumatic sex and also with other sexually acquired infections such as syphilis. Practice safe sex to decrease this risk.
