Response from Dr. McGovern
I would like to request all of my readers with questions only related to HIV to post to the HIV forum. On the other hand any questions related to HIV and hepatitis coinfection should come to me.
To answer your question, the new recommendations since 2006 has been to offer routine HIV testing to everyone, so your doctor should offer you this test along with other routine blood tests. It is important for all people - not just you - to know their HIV status. This includes sexually active senior citizens!
