| How long is a life span with hep B Aug 27, 2009 I was recently diagnosed with Hepatitis B. My level is only at 1000 so I was told it was a mild case. My question is how long is my life expectancy? Will I die early? I am only 31 with 2 kids and I am very scared. Thank you |

Response from Dr. McGovern
With your level of virus it is not even clear that you will ever need treatment. You will need careful follow-up to see how your infection proceeds over time. However, you should not be thinking about hepatitis B interfering with your lifespan. Furthermore, it you do eventually need treatment, there are excellent medications to help suppress the virus. The key is careful follow-up - at least every six months - with your doctor. I would also have your in-house contacts vaccinated against hepatitis B - if they have not been vaccinated in the past. | ||||||||||
