|HCV RNA PCR tests
Jul 10, 2009
Hello. I have a question about HCV RNA PCR tests,I could not find a straight up answer in this site and from others It ranges from: 1-2 weeks 1-3 weeks 14-28 days
I Was wondering what is the window period for HCV RNA PCR tests?
Thanks in advance, Adam

Thank you for your excellent question.
Following exposure, HCV RNA can appear in blood in as little as days to a couple of weeks. However, there is no clear interval after exposure when a negative HCV RNA would rule out infection. This has not been well-studied.
Some major guideline committees have recommended HCV RNA testing immediately and at 4 and 12 weeks; HCV antibody testing immediately and at week 12; and ALT (liver function testing) at weeks 4 and 12.
