If you were taking these tests to see if you were susceptible to hepatitis viruses, you would be reassured by knowing the following:

1. If your total hepatitis A antibody is reactive, but your IgM is not, then you are protected from hepatitis A. You either had the infection in the past or you were vaccinated in the past. You don't have to worry either way because hepatitis A does NOT cause chronic disease.

2. For hepatitis B, as long as your surface antigen (S AG) is nonreactive and your hepatitis B surface antibody is reactive (S AB) then you are protected as well from this infection. Since your core antibody (AB) is non reactive, your protection is due to prior vaccination.
